Richard Kates

Richard brings over 25 years of clinical, athletic training, strength training, and academic experience to the TriMotus team. Before joining TriMotus, he spent 20 years as a certified and licensed athletic trainer at the high school, college, and professional levels. He then advanced his practice into Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (MSK), earning his RMSKS certification in January 2019 — one of only 378 certified RMSKS professionals in the United States. Richard has since mentored numerous sonographers, physical therapists, athletic trainers, and physicians in earning their own RMSKS/RMSK credentials, and was previously on staff at the Smith-Chesson Sonography School in Arizona.

A lifelong Arizona resident, Richard recently returned home after two years in Evansville, Indiana, where he worked at a large orthopedic practice honing his scanning skills. Outside the clinic, he enjoys playing golf, teaching, watching his youngest daughter finish her college softball career, spending time with his oldest daughter — a first-grade teacher in Arizona — and life with his wife of 25 years. Richard holds an undergraduate degree from Arizona State University and a Master’s degree from A.T. Still University.
